A Thanksgiving Thought:

This time of year I always look back on the past 12 months and think about what I have to be thankful for. So, here are my thoughts on this past year.

Most of all I am thankful for my little daughter.... the one who brings 98% of the smiles to my face. I am thankful for my family. Those who put up with me daily. The people who support me when I need it. The ones who encourage me when I am down. The people who always tell me the things that I DO NOT want to hear, when I really NEED to hear them. I am thankful for my husband, the main provider for our family. Yes I bring in money from my photos and other things but, he is the one who pays the bills. I am thankful that he supports my photography and my ambitions. I am thankful for GOD. The one thing in this world that is always reliable. I am thankful for my broken camera... it has made it this far and will soon retire to a beautiful Canon 20D. I am thankful for my new hard drive on my computer! I am thankful for myspace and all of my new friends!

Besides all of the material things that we have to be thankful for, I feel that it is important that we look around the world to have a better grasp on our daily blessings that we take for granted. I am thankful I am not in certain regions in the world where I would have no rights. I am thankful that I have food to eat everyday, when so many children and families globally are suffering. I am thankful for the roof that I sleep under every night, especially when there are homeless people sleeping in alleys beside garbage cans. I am thankful for the heat in our house that keeps us warm. There are many people, even in America that cannot afford to heat their homes this winter. I am thankful that even though our bill is mighty high, at least we have heat! I am thankful for my health. Countries like Africa have millions of people that suffer from HIV , and other deadly diseases for which the citizens cannot get proper treatment so I am thankful for our health care system.

We take so much for granted daily. It is good to have one holiday a year that reminds us of everything that we have in our lives that we should be grateful for. This Thanksgiving, I encourage all of you to reflect on your lives, and your daily duties that you take for granted. Be thankful that you are able to walk, eat, sleep in a warm bed, breath fresh air, drink clean water... just look around.. there is so much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Nice words Lara.
It's so true how many of us take way too much in our lives for granted. All the things you mentioned, health, food, clean water, fuel etc. we just accept as part of our everyday lives unlike some in impoverished places that don't come by these things at all, but still accept that even without these things they have to get on with their lives, unlike us " the haves " that would moan and whinge if we were to be asked to go without our luxuries for any period of time. I'm as guilty as the next man for not sparing a thought as often as i should for those less fortunate than myself - i do sometimes - but not as much as i ought to. We don't do Thanksgiving here in the UK, but we do have something similar called Harvest Festival, a celebration of the food grown and brought to our tables, where we collect food etc and pass it out to those that don't have enough of their own - once a year though, same as Thanksgiving - is this really enough to make a difference to the world.
Wasn't sure if you were looking for any reply or not, but seeing as you were pointing people in the direction of your blog thing i thought i may as well say something too.
Take care.
